Reaction modelling
Description
This module starts by reviewing the basics of reaction engineering, before proceeding towards writing the material and energy balance equations for reactors. Different kinetic expressions are covered with a goal to teach students how they can incorporate these reaction schemes into their mathematical models. Equilibrium and sequential reactions, as well as the fundamentals of catalysis are also touched upon.

Learning outcomes
At the end of this module, students should be able to write the material and energy balance equations for continuous stirred tank reactors, batch reactors and plug flow reactors. They should also be able to implement reaction kinetic expressions for various systems. Furthermore, they should be able to write balance equations for equilibrium reactions and model the effect of catalysts on reactions.
